The Olympians woke on a beautiful Cornish day. Put on their Olympic attire to get them in the right frame of mind for charging hard down the line with whatever sport the day would bring.
After much deliberation at BF HQ, it had been decided upon a timetable of…
Track and Field (100m relay, hurdle-ing (each other) and long jump)
Speed climbing (dune running)
Equestrian (dressage - using pool noodles to guide your horse/team mate)
Wrestling/Martial Arts – aka tug of war (we have done this before – I knew where this event can lead to trouble so the adjudicators were well prepped)
Tennis (showing off their racket skills to get the balls into buckets on the other side of the water)
Triathlon/gymnastics (run – ‘swim’(wade) – bike (bicycle crunches) – gymnastic move + net scramble – repeat.
The teams performed brilliantly and were neck and neck throughout. It really did come down to the last event where everyone really worked their socks off for every half lap. Some fabulous gymnastic displays were performed and they left everything out there on the course.
All in all it turned out to be a wonderful morning. I was so chuffed that everyone was up for the silliness whilst really giving their all to the events in place.
It meant a lot to have Louise and Denise there to help me judge too and their support made a big difference to everyone else in terms of getting things running smoothly and having the video evidence for event disputes (!) and for reliving the laughs later.
Special mentions go to –
Claire – tennis pro with an extremely long jump
Carlene – absolutely dedicated to mastering the dune
June – for 100% competitiveness whatever the game is
Helen – for an hour of hard teamwork without removing the swimming cap and goggles
Sarah B – for giving her all before the knee caved in
Sarah M – with pressure of the team, she was a hurdling queen
Ellie – the absolute boss of running who battled for her team to the end
Rachel – an all round champion of all the sports
Helena – cracking the triathlon longer distance running and getting the final points for the team
Katie – birthday girl, amazing fancy dress and all round motivator for this event in general
Leana – breakdancing joy who hit the dune with full attitude!
Kath – always happy with little Pip - the sprinting was on fire
Adele – facing off the opposition at the tug of war with grass skirt smiliness
Lucy – United States of Hayle! A mean catch as well as hitter
Having such a wonderful group of women to work out with, who encourage and motivate each other is why this group is so special. Look out for the next event for more fun and games!
